Insights

ChipMOS posted mixed Q2 revenue results with sequential growth but year-over-year decline, benefiting from memory product demand despite monthly weakness.

ChipMOS Technologies, an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) provider, reported Q2 2025 revenue of NT$5,735.8 million (US$196.6 million), showing a 3.7% sequential increase from Q1 but a 1.3% year-over-year decline. The quarterly performance reflects the company's ability to capitalize on improved memory market conditions despite broader industry challenges.

The memory segment emerges as a bright spot, with management specifically highlighting increased customer demand and overall market price increases for memory products. This suggests ChipMOS is successfully leveraging its position in memory packaging and testing at a time when memory pricing has been strengthening industry-wide.

However, June's monthly revenue of NT$1,849.7 million (US$63.4 million) reveals some concerning trends, declining 8.7% month-over-month and 3.5% year-over-year. This monthly weakness at quarter-end could signal potential headwinds entering Q3.

Management's comments on monitoring tariff situations indicate potential challenges ahead. While they state tariffs haven't materially impacted recent results, the explicit mention suggests they're preparing for possible disruption in customer demand patterns, particularly for products destined for the U.S. market. This proactive acknowledgment demonstrates awareness of geopolitical risks that could affect the semiconductor supply chain.

For investors following ChipMOS, these results present a mixed picture the quarterly growth is positive, but the June decline and year-over-year quarterly decrease suggest caution is warranted regarding growth momentum heading into the second half of 2025.
