Today, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) awarded more than $3.5 million in youth literacy grants to support more than 700 schools, libraries and non-profit organizations in DG’s hometown communities across the country, positively impacting more than 560,000 students. Recipients plan to use the funds for professional development opportunities and/or to purchase books, technology, equipment or materials to help extend a brighter future for K-12 students. To shine an additional light on literacy, the Foundation recently launched its sixth annual . Now through International Literacy Day on September 8 (or while supplies last), DG customers can purchase yellow sunglasses for $2 each at participating DG (NYSE: DG) stores across the country to benefit the DGLF.
Since its inception in 1993, the DGLF has awarded more than $275 million through more than 30,000 grants to support organizations working to advance literacy and basic education. Today’s grants complement the Foundation’s recent record-setting, in the Foundation’s history of more than $13.2 million to support adult, family, and summer literacy programs across the country in May 2025.
